At Hopes Grove Nurseries we stock a range of the very best, tried and tested Azalea and Rhododendron varieties, selected by our expert horticulturist. We supply them as well established plants in generous 4 or 5 litre pots, they are guaranteed to flower in their first season.
Azaleas
These colourful plants come alive in the spring providing a breathtaking show of flowers, particularly when planted in bold groups where space allows.
We offer two distinct types, the Deciduous Azaleas offer a profusion of brightly coloured trumpet-shaped flowers in May/June, they come in a variety of shades and few shrubs offer such a wealth of spring colour. The leaves often turn to attractive autumn hues of yellow, orange and red. All are slow-growing, gradually attaining a height of 150cm or so.
The Evergreen varieties are slow-growing shrubs rarely exceeding one metre in height and provide a tapestry of colour in late spring. These are versatile plants suitable for beds and borders, informal hedges and topiaries, woodland gardens and in containers. Being part of the same larger family, Azaleas always associate well with Rhododendrons, we also have a great selection of these larger and very beautiful spring flowering shrubs.
Rhododendrons
Rhododendron are renowned for displaying a spectacular show of brightly coloured flowers in spring, and make for a truly beautiful addition to any garden or landscape. They can be both evergreen and deciduous hedges, meaning you can find the right rhododendron hedge you desire, with the specific colour you’re after.
These hedging plants are great for not only providing colour and a focal point for your garden, but also for planting in masses, to create privacy and a truly spectacular colour show. Most of these plants will grow to 180cm x 180cm, and when paired with our beautiful azaleas, will provide you with the prettiest sight – especially in woodland settings.
They like well-drained soil that is moist, which definitely has to be free of any lime. They also prefer being planted where there will be leaf mould or similar organic matter to help them grow. They are surface rooting plants, and really enjoy having plenty of pleat planted with them, as well as yearly top-ups. Our wide range of bushy rhododendrons are ready for sale at four years old, and come in five-litre pots, normally at 12-16 inches high and wide (excluding the pot). With a variety of rhododendron plants in stock throughout the year, there is sure to be one or more for everyone’s tastes and requirements.
We nurture and care for these plants, as we do all of our stock, on our family-run nursery here in the heart of Kent, so you can rest assured that they’re going to arrive in great condition.
