Snowberry White Hedge a tough and hardy deciduous plant also known by the full Latin name of Symphoricarpos x dooenbosii White Hedge. A plant that is native to North America and also grows well in this country.
This particularly delightful variety of Snowberry produces the prettiest small pink flowers which hang in clusters from July until September followed closely by a profusion white globe like berries. Adding to its many plus side features it will also tolerate both full sun and partial shade in exposed and or sheltered sites.
An easily grown and delightful addition to beds and borders it will thrive in any fertile moist but well drained soil including clay and chalk. This versatile small growing shrub will stay neat and tidy with little or no pruning but will spread if left to do so. It is best trimmed in summer and should be planted at approx 18 inches (45cm) apart to make a hedge. If left to grow as a feature shrub for winter interest it will grow to approx. 5ft x 4ft.
The Snowberry White Hedge is sold as an economical bare root from November through until the end of March. Preparing the ground ahead of the plants arriving will ensure planting can take place within a few days of them arriving this also means a small part of the prepared ground can be kept protected from frost to allow ‘heeling in’ of the bundles in case full planting is not possible due to adverse weather.
