Abeliophyllum Distichum Roseum Shrubs

Abeliophyllum distichum Roseum (White Forsythia)

Small winter shrubs that offer beautiful flowers and fragrance are rare, two very good reasons why you might decide to grow White forsythia. From February to March bare chestnut-coloured stems are hung with masses of sweetly-scented, pink tinged snow-white starry flowers and as blooms fade, neatly paired mid-green foliage emerges. Being deciduous White forsythia loses its leaves in winter but is a godsend bringing luminosity into the winter landscape. White forsythia can be grown in containers and planters flanking entrances and doorways allowing you to enjoy its delicious scent as you pass.

Abeliophyllum distichum Roseum

Happy and hardy in any decent well-drained soil in full sun, White forsythia is as hardy as it is beautiful and an inspiring choice for introducing winter interest and fragrance. Mostly trouble-free and low-maintenance, Abeliophyllum distichum Roseum transforms bleak winter landscapes in sunny city, country, suburban and wildlife gardens and is just as happy on patios or roof terraces in planters. 1.5m x 2.5m

Plant our potted specimens at anytime in full sun in any decent, well-drained soil sheltered from rude winds. Avoid planting when the ground is excessively wet or frozen. Remember, shrubs can take several years to reach their ultimate height and spread depending on species so give it ample growing room.

A formal problem-free informal shrub that needs little pruning. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain size and shape. After three or four years it’s a good idea to cut back some stems right back to ground level after flowering to keep it at its best.
