Hebe ‘Emerald Gem’ will thrive in almost any well drained soil, in full sun or in partial shade. For the best show of white flowers in summer, it will perform better in a sunny position. Being a compact shrub means it is well suited to all size gardens, providing some lovely colour and texture to any style garden. The upright green shoots give it a natural rounded shape meaning very little pruning is needed to keep it in a nice shape for any garden position.
Plant Hebe ‘Emerald Gem’ in a sunny or part shady spot in the garden with well drained soil. Dig a hole bigger than the width of the root ball and when planting make sure the top of the rootball is level with the soil surface. Backfill the planting hole, firm down and water in well. Mulching can be beneficial around the plant to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
The most important aftercare advice for Hebe ‘Emerald Gem’ is to water thoroughly, especially after planting and during dry spells. As with any plants growing in pots, they will likely require more watering than in the ground. It can be helpful to apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and if needed, prune lightly straight after flowering which can help growth. Heavy pruning is not necessary and can lead to damaging the plant. Young plants can be protected over winter by wrapping horticultural fleece over them or if growing in containers, move to an undercover area.
