Mahonia x media Winter Sun  (Oregon Grape)
An evergreen shrub with true star quality, from November until March the slender spikes of fragrant bright yellow flowers open, held above bold rosettes of lustrous deep green holly-like foliage providing valuable nectar for winter active pollinating insects. As the flowers fade the bunches of colourful deep purple berries develop and will be very popular with birds as they ripen.
Mahonia Winter Sun is a great architectural plant with all year presence and interest, a great focal point for the back of a shady border paired with lower ground covering shrubs and Spring bulbs. Like all Mahonia they do well in the shade but also succeed in sun provided there is some moisture in the soil. 4m x 4m
Mahonia x media Winter Sun is a stately evergreen shrub with very large architectural leaves that grow to 50cm or more. The fragrant yellow flower spikes are borne proudly above the foliage throughout the winter months from November until March when the garden can appear devoid of colour, followed by showy bunches of deep purple berries. Mahonia Winter Sun makes an excellent, colourful back of border shrub being a focal point that will attract wildlife, insects to pollinate the flowers and birds a little later for the berries, as well as being a deterrent for intruders with its spiky foliage
Mahonia is a very useful plant for shady areas and low maintenance gardens as it is drought resistant and does not need much looking after. Pruning should be carried out in spring after flowering with any stems that have grown too long or are bare at the base being cut back to a strong shoot. If the plant has been overlooked for some time and is in need of some tlc it can be cut back to stems about 30-60cm long to revive it.
We supply Mahonia x media Winter Sun as a pot grown plant which enables it to be planted at any time of year with little trauma to the root system. This means that the plant will establish quickly and start putting on growth.

Delivery is fast – because we pick orders daily from our own growing beds your plants only travel the small hop to our packing shed before being sent to you, they are usually delivered within 3-7 days.

Delivery is reliable – we have been selling and delivering Hedging Plants to our customers nationwide since 1992. We have a lot of experience in packing them safely and only use tried and tested delivery partners.

Exceptions to our delivery charges are Scottish Highland and Isle of Wight delivery areas where we need to charge a little extra to cover the cost of deliveries to these outlying areas. We don’t currently delivery to other offshore addresses including Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.

Tall plants over 2.5 metres have to be delivered by our own specialised transport, our delivery area is limited to mainland England and Wales only.

Please note there is a minimum order value of £50 for orders containing smaller plants and £250 for orders containing heavier plants
