Spiraea japonica Shirobana
Spirea Japonica make an attractive addition to any garden whether being used as a low informal hedge or edging plant or to cover a bank, infill gaps in flower borders or as ground cover. They can also be used as a colourful addition to patios when planted in pots or planters. These versatile hardy little shrubs will grow in full sun or partial shade in any reasonable soil but should the soil be chalky then they will welcome a generous mix of organic matter to the existing chalky soil.
Planting as a hedge one should allow 3-5 plants per metre which will allow the hedge to be kept from 80cm-100ch high and if using as ground cover then 4-6 plants per square metre will make an excellent show. Their growth rate is approximately 20cm per year and we recommend trimming in spring to keep a neat and tidy shape to the plant.
